One of the top news stories of 2021 (besides COVID) was “The Great Resignation” or “The Big Quit”. The most recent government’s job report indicated that well over 20 million people quit their jobs in the second half of 2021. Many of those who quit their jobs did so without another job or a plan - quite risky. Risk Management is one of the most important tasks for a Project Manager. Given this, regardless of what your job goal is in 2022, it only seemed natural that our first article of 2022 pertain to Intentional Professional Growth Plans.
According to John Maxwell, a number 1 New York Times bestselling author, coach and speaker, “The only guarantee you and I have for a better tomorrow is if we are growing today”. According to Mr. Maxwell, “we don’t go into possibilities we grow into possibilities” and “we don’t go into opportunities, we grow into opportunities.” And, the best way to grow into anything is with an Intentional Growth Plan.
From a career perspective, an Intentional Professional Growth plan needs a goal as well as future and current state skill assessment. Based on the skill gap (which is your future skill state minus current skill state), you can begin constructing an Intentional Growth Plan.
